This sad series of photographs were taken recently inside Marr
College and demonstrate the dire state of repair and the need for urgent action
to combat the worst of the neglect.

Window Frame and Plasterwork |
|
Corrosion has damaged the window frame allowing water egress and dampness to damage the plasterwork in the window reveal. |

Window Frame |
|
This frame has completely corroded through and offers no weather protection, clearly is unsafe and I would consider to be a heath and safety issue. |

Paintwork |
|
This ceiling has probably not seen a coat of paint since the South Ayrshire Council took charge of the building. |

Inner Courtyard |
|
There can surely be no excuses for this lack of basic caretaking, this rubbish must represent a health issue. |

New Building |
|
There appears to be no shortage of paint when it comes to obscuring the graffiti on the new school building.

Glassless Window |
|
It’s doubtful if this frame would take replacement glazing so far gone is the metalwork. |

Valley Gutter |
|
If you look carefully in the valley gutter, the organic material is causing a blockage which will result in water entering the building with the resulting dampness and rot, a morning’s work would save thousands of pounds. |

Corroded Down pipe |
|
This down pipe must have been blocked for some considerable time, the result water egress and dampness. |

This magnificent wooden dome is showing early signs of water damage. |

Corridor “New” extension |
|
There would appear to be nothing selective about the lack of maintenance, the “new” building appears as neglected as is the original college building. |

Magnificent View |
|
I included this because I thought the view quite magnificent, though in the 50’s the gardens and trees were better kept. |

Home Economics |

Or Domestic Science, as it was in the late '50's it doesn’t look as if much has changed since then either. |

Corridor Leading to the Assembly Hall |
|
The tables etc. are stacked in the corridor to allow for the re-varnishing of the classroom floors. It looks as though the rubber floors have been replaced, probably rightly so after 70 years of Troon youngsters. |

The more recent tiling is clearly not up to the standard of the original. |

Flooring |
|
The rubber flooring appears from this shot to have had it’s day, but then it is 70 years old. |

Security |
|
What every school needs, a security camera, recently over £30 thousand was spent by South Ayrshire Council on fencing and cameras. |

Library |
|
A shadow of it’s former self, but not as bad as I had feared, though the ceiling at least could do with a coat of paint.

Entrance |
|
At last the mystery of the missing artwork, it’s found a home in the college entrance, alongside CK Marr. |
